Museum of Cultures Akseli Gallen-Kallela travelled with his family to British East Africa in May 1909 and spent a year and a half in what is now Kenya. The artist, his wife Mary and children Jorma and Kirsti were spellbound by the African heat, nature and colours. Photos by Finnish photographer Juha Laitalainen taken on his journey to follow in Gallen-Kallela’s footprints almost exactly 100 years later illustrate very similar experiences.
